Dawn Patrol with Sea Pony

If skill diversity is a good hand to have as a professional surfer, Jupiter Beach Florida's Jenni Flanigan has it in spades. Currently ranked 5th in the world after her quarterfinal finish in the 2007 Roxy ASP Women's World Longboard Championship, Jenni's surfing alone is enough to make it a career, although she keeps life interesting by mixing in equal portions of writing and modeling. Her surfing talent landed Jenni a contract with Oxbow Surfwear Company. Since riding for the French company, Jenni's image has appeared in everything from videos to massive photos of her on the sides of Oxbow marketing vehicles.

On this particular morning, we had a little over a half hour to produce some surfing photos of Jenni that would appear in Chicks Power Magazine, a women's surf magazine based in France. The surfing photos would be in support of editorial shots of Jenni taken by the über-talented Alexa Miller. Despite being just past dawn, Jenni rolled up looking like she was ready for a modeling shoot...and not because she was trying to either. Jenni just has that "it" factor...always fashionable and the camera simply loves her!

A quick surf check and a couple of "Are you sure there are waves out there Chris?" questions and Jenni was paddling out for a few rides before the morning commute. As always seems to be the case, the one true set wave that came through was when Jenni was making her way out to the lineup. Nevertheless, the high tide conditions found the waves standing up a bit on the inside sandbar and Jenni negotiated some good noseride sections. With our half-hour coming to a close and good images in the bag, Jenni was out of her suit and into her stylish threads before I could even manage to trudge my camera gear back to the car. We said our goodbyes and off we went...Jenni to her charmed life as Sea Pony...me, back to my trusty old Mac.
